First of all, the terrorists who are murdering members of minorities in Syria are not all Syrians. Many of them are violent extremists brought into the country by Turkey from places like Tajikistan or Xinjiang in China.
Second, these terrorists are not targeting only Alawites. They’re also targeting Christians and other minorities in Syria who did not have any particular allegiance to Assad. This means that the motivation for the killings is not ‘revenge’ for supporting Assad. Rather, their motivation is violent hatred of any Syrian who does not ascribe to HTS’s perverted view of Islam.
Third, Dyer describes HTS as “a Syrian Islamist militia”. It’s highly misleading to describe HTS as “Syrian” because many of its terrorists are not Syrian. More importantly, nowhere in his 15-paragraph article does Dyer mention that, until a few months ago, major Western governments designated HTS as a terrorist organization, nor does he mention that the CIA recently had a $10 million bounty on the head of HTS leader al-Julani.
As someone who pays handsomely for a subscription to this newspaper, I hereby request that @TheHillTimes stop publishing this crap.
