My question is since there are so many forks of Linux, why does it matter if some of them remove support? Surely plenty of them are keeping the legacy alive? I don't know much about Linux though.

they better not drop support for my trusty 6502. aint no way im paying for a new high falootin ai chip. it used to be just for nerds but now its for everybody and everybody is different from just nerds. the nerds refused to spend any money ever. meanwhile everybody else was buying a new windows computer monthly. had ai not identified the bugs we would have been happy. ignorance is bliss. this is why we cant have nice things. if they empower us to keep our old stuff then us versus them kicks in and we refuse to pay them for their work. somebody pays linux developers and you showed us pictures of them because it certainly isnt you or
