The media, in response to this news, takes a Jewish crime and makes the Jew into a victim. Jack the Ripper moves from savage killer to innocent victim of non-Jewish racism.

His name was Aaron Kosminski, a 25-year-old Jewish immigrant from the Russian Empire, who lived with his mother and sisters.

Although he gave his job as hairdresser, he had not worked for years. Doctors who observed his ravings and depraved self-abuse were left in no doubt that he was insane.

The police were certain that this was Jack the Ripper, the serial killer who had murdered at least five prostitutes in London’s East End — and perhaps as many as 11.

But they could not prove it. Even with Lavender’s evidence, the working-class Jewish community in east London had closed ranks to protect themselves.

Many were scared that, if a Jewish immigrant was revealed to be Jack the Ripper, they would be the targets of riots and violence.
