SCP foundation

What was the idea of that site? http://www.scp-wiki.net/
Are they covering something sinister?(there is common strategy to dilute and discredit actual evidence by presenting mass of conflicting and misleading information).
The whole thing seems like a giant psyop with crowdsourcing.

It's a site about a fictional organization. Basically people write ghost stories and they publish them.

I know its fictional, the whole thing is completely fake: but its not about ghost stories, its like a catalogue of paranormal stuff.
imagine, you want to talk about some X-thing, but you get a reply like "thats like SCP-xxx, are you roleplaying it?" (where SCP-xxx is misleading but vaguely similar thing to the actual phenomenon)

SCP foundation is like Verrit in reverse, when you have fact numbers for refuting paranormal things by making them fictional objects.
Phenomenona Y is equated with SCP - xxx and Y is presumed to be fictional and not real.
Like creating a dozen movies about Bigfoot will discredit most sightings as imagination or roleplaying, because the first information people have is that X is fictional(and people value information by chronological priority, making SCP like a vaccine for rejecting specific paranormal stories).
