They sure are taking a long time getting their systems upgraded. I'm thinking their payment processors were pressured into no longer working with them, more like.

Of course not literally, but the cyclical nature of civilizations (and everything else) is undeniable. In terms of a society, traits are passed down through genes but the power structure will always try to kill off independent-minded / rage-against-injustice / heroic / compassionate traits by killing as many people who possess them as possible (and/or preventing their offspring through various means). They have to do that because such traits are what forms a civilization but also what threatens the power structure once established enough to become decadent.

So the longer a civilization exists the more the 'essential' genes that make a civilization great are eradicated. You can't just bring those genes back, everything has to crumble to dust and the process of hundreds to thousands of years of primitive living create new gene stock capable of creating a civilization. That's called a cycle, and it is no surprise the description of the Kali Yuga matches up to what we are experiencing because we are not the first civilization to reach the end of its cycle.
