why do people pay for VPNs to torrent when

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-07 16:52

you can just use a random free proxy in your torrent client

sure, it will be slow, but there's no way you will get C&D letters

am I missing something?

Random free proxies are unreliable as you said, but they also log IPs. So technically, they can give your IP to those who file a C&D.

what if you use a proxy from a shithole like Brazil

they're not even going to bother knowing that it might be a penniless monkey on the other end

Proxy from shithole = worse reliability and speed/latency.

but they also log IPs
So do the the paid VPNs.
Getting a dedi would be a better idea.

Also, I2P exists.

Free wifi also exists.

seriously. there's a lot of public ones but if that's not enough then car + laptop + good antenna will get you far (not as far as when WEP was still popular though)

my torrents average 100gb in size though

There's nothing illegal about the BitTorrent protocol. It's no more illegal than Http.

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-09 3:35

>>16
Some integers are illegal to distribute no matter what protocol is used.

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-09 4:03

>>17
But BitTorrent itself isn't. That's a blatant false implication if I've ever seen one.

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-09 7:09

>>18
That's false. Do you live in China? Do you know Chinese law?

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-09 12:38

>>19
What does China have to do with the discussion of BitTorrent's legality? You are the first one to bring up China here.

Name: Anonymous 2018-02-09 14:09

Carrying eleven guns is also not illegal but its probably a red sign.

Enjoy your red signs and ostracization.
