Cultural Poverty

Name: Anonymous 2018-04-21 17:01

When we talk about poverty, the focus is usually on economic poverty. But what about cultural poverty? Real culture is being replaced with garbage. Our identities are becoming increasingly meaningless.

Modern Americans are culturally impoverished. They are decreasingly religious, go to chain stores, chain restaurants, mass media, video games, Hollywood, generic pop songs. Americans are no longer in touch with their cultural roots. Religious ceremonies, traditional song and dance from their ancestors, nature, traditional garb, moral systems, art, and more.

We are becoming a homogenized population of Walmart, McDonalds, Starbucks, Budweiser, Star Wars, prescription antidepressant, Xbox-playing, people, staring at their smartphones, who are no longer connected to anything meaningful. Corporate consumerism over culture.

Video games are art.
