Metrics

People judge you based on metrics. You judge other people based on metrics. What do I mean by that?

Well, you know how some routing protocols determine best path based on performance, while older ones might determine the best path based on the number of hops?

When you see someone, you are constantly evaluating them -- especially if you're meeting them for the first time, as opposed to someone you know really well.

Some people think attractiveness is the value of a person. People who go to the gym a lot might focus on how strong or fit you seem. Some guys might judge a girl based on how big her boobs are. People who are into cars might evaluate your worth based on the kind of car you drive. Foodies might use a cooking-based metric. Alcoholics evaluate people based on their ability to drink. People are subconsciously quantifying your worth based on algorithms their brain came up with, even if they can't put them into words or formulas.

What metrics do you use to judge someone?

I personally judge people based on how tech-savvy they are. Programming, soldering, installing alternative OSes or firmware, overclocking, pen testing, and things like that.

You are clearly overcompensating yourself. Think about it: a Bugatti is very expensive, even renting a nice one. If this man can throw money away on it, then you envy him. Because you live in a society where 8+ hours a day are expected to be dedicated to pursuit of money, unless you are fabulously wealthy yourself, envy and a grudging respect are generated by seeing a man who literally has more life than you do -- more time and ability to live and experience life as he sees fit, by way of the money he evidently has in abundance.

His wife will be hotter ("b-b-but she won't love him"), his kids will be happier and more successful ("b-b-but they will be ugly") he will never experience rudeness or petty hardships going about his day ("b-b-but waiters will secretly resent him") and his life will be more rewarding and fulfilling than yours ("b-b-but I love being a wage slave").
