You've got it backwards. Don't look at it as nationalism being high pay and globalism as being normal pay. Nationalism has normal wages and has been the case for all of human history until recently. Globalism is a fairly recent phenomenon, and it drives wages down dramatically. Globalism devalues labor and hurts poor people.
You're making it sound like competing on a global scale is the norm, when in reality, only competing locally is historically what people have had to deal with, prior to modern airplanes, ships, and the internet. The elites benefit more from globalism than anyone else.
