Should we ban this thread? I have no idea wtf any of it is, looks like troll spam though.... Either way, I'm sick of seeing it always bumped up and having to scroll through all these. Thoughts?

Its computer builds from pcpartpicker, its my obsessision to construct theoretical builds to check cost-efficiency and various setups for compatibility/price/quality combos or just fantasy builds.
I don't see how its bad? /g/ has those threads every hour.

Probably because it looks like (and most likely still is) someone spamming with store products.
There's no content. Just "buy this shit here".

I don't buy anything. I still use my haswell pentium build without video card.
Its more of an exercise in fantasy, checking reviews and comparing performance metrics to decide on a "perfect fit" for a build and its requirements.

Basically you set out to "settle" some theoretical question like "What component combo is best for N$?" or "What is the most powerful gaming build?".

It takes quite a bit of research and comparing reviews/benchmarks, plus it gives you a sense of satisfaction to have knowledge of subtle hardware differences that most people are unaware of(Such as modern Intel CPUs needing delidding), because
you read so much on hardware internals.

I also like the ability to check price drops to see economic trends, such as SSD storage becoming cheaper (pcpartpicker price drop section) and latest builds feed(where people showcase their completed builds) to check the pulse of personal computing as a hobby in real-time.
Why i'm into hardware?
Computers are cornerstone of digital economy and the personal computer is the "tool of production" for most modern content. Hardware defines the limits of software. The boring tech news about processors and memory tech redefine our future in computer science - allowing new capabilities, functions and features.

/g/ has those threads every hour
Sounds like a good reason to ban.

I like the workstation build thread(s). Even this one is okay. I only have an Aspire V Nitro laptop, so it is fun to imagine.

I've decided to add builds directly to the wiki, so it won't waste visual space on /lounge/: plus its easier to correct/edit.
