Going to get my car serviced next week

Is this normal? It's just some minivan that cost under 4k, I'e had it for 9 months and maybe driven like 5k miles. The servicing involves oil changing and some fluids or whatever. Am I being scammed by initiating this? I pulled out my oil stick once but it was very long so I'm not sure about it.
My breaks do feel a little less-than-optimally-responsive so maybe I do need brake fluid whatever that is. I notice I'm coming to a stop light and start breaking lightly and it feels like the light breaking doesn't activate heavily enough and I end up slamming on brake at last second to avoid the car in front. Brake fluid issue or an issue with my brake depression technique? I'm thinking to ask these questions at the servicing but I'm worried they will lye for more work to do.

That's what you get for not driving a real car.
