Gnostics look upon matter and see that it is evil, leading them to claim that an evil being created matter. BZZZZT. Wrong. Creation can only happen within a cause and effect scenario, which obviously isn't happening outside of space time.
No, matter appears evil because you are of space time. You have a potato to make stew with. But the potato is blighted so you starve (lol). Is that evil? Well, no because both the rotting potato and your rotting carcass can be used to feed the natural system leading to rebirth and flourishing of life. There we find goodness, that goodness only exists in eternity, broken into time segments only evil (decay and death) can flourish.
One thus sees that it is not matter that is evil, it is one that is evil. To stop being evil one must throw themselves to eternity and be beyond cause and effect. In this way one becomes above the rot and loses the ability to define rot vs food since all is food in eternity.
