Lucknow: At a time when the fear of the third wave of Covid-19 looms large, Lucknow is gripped by cases of mystery fever. According to an IANS report, over 400 viral patients, including 40 children, have been admitted to various government hospitals in the capital city in the past two days. Doctors have, however, termed these cases as seasonal flu due to changing weather conditions. Patients, on the other hand, are fearing this may be the beginning of the third wave of the Covid pandemic.

NEW DELHI: A Central team sent to western Uttar Pradesh last week to investigate a deadly outbreak of “mystery fever” has said in its report to the Union health ministry that poor hygiene and inadequate vector control may be leading to a surge in monsoon diseases this year.

The cause of the fever that has claimed nearly 100 lives, mostly children, in Firozabad and adjoining districts has been identified as a combination of dengue, scrub typhus and leptospirosis — all spread through vectors.

dengue is not dengue. Mystery fever remains mysterious.
“Around 75-100 patients suffering from fever are reaching the hospital every day. Dengue was confirmed in two patients in a rapid test, but dengue was not found in the ELISA test. At present there is not a single dengue patient in the hospital. But if we talk about other hospitals, then the situation doesn’t seem good,” Anil Nigam, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Ursala Hospital, Kanpur said.
