this is starting the feel like 7chan

I know we are in a stage of mobilization and organization, but we need more shitposting. If the traditions of /prog/ are not maintained, /prog/ really will have died, and we will have forgotten who we are. The one, unique place on the internet, we have to keep it alive somehow.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:00

Naw.

Well, the problem is that it just says "updating..." when you post, instead of telling you your post was VIP Quality. Nothing like positive reinforcement, I say. But don't you think shitposts belong where they are, in what I will henceforth refer to as the /prog/ toilet? I kind of like actual code-dumps like we're seeing here.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:01

Epic idea OP. I'll get started right away ;^)

I like this /prog/ as well, but the old /prog/ still served some kind of purpose for us. There was some kind of niche. Where intelligence and shitposting came together as one.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:02

It just needs more users. It feels like that now because there's only me, you, the Sussman and T. Davis so it feels like we all know each other.

Once more people come it will begin to feel more like the old /prog/.

That's true. That's the missing ingredient. The curious new comers, and the random opinionated passerbys and the /g/ros

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:07

7chan is pretty terrible. We're more like iichan at the moment. I do miss the shitposting, and there is way too much meta and mod advocation here. I doubt I'll stick around if we approach 7chan levels of quality.

I'm here and you guys don't know me yet.

Posting link on /g/ now ;^)

Don't worry about the mod advocation, I'm the only admin/mod and that will remain so for the foreseeable future, and I don't plan on moderating beyond just preventing spam and keeping the board usable.

We got spammed this morning but there's no indication of it beyond post numbers. That is my [spoiler]ONLY PURPOSE.

BBCode failure. Shame.

hello!

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:13

>>11
How did the spamming work? Did it shut down posting like I predicted?

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:14

>>14
Yes, for a bit.

Error: IP Limit Hit - Wait a minute or two before posting again (not related to the global limit)
I hope this is removed when it is practical to do so. I have precious little time.

I don't know, a little bit? I fixed that now. Hopefully, anyway. I'll better it as time goes on, too.

I've offered to provide patches to Tables in hopes of preventing these things for him too, in the future.

I plan to make the limit resize itself automatically. I had an idea in my head that will work even if people spam from Tor.

We'll see how well it works in practice. All in due time.

If you notice, the signal to noise ration is much higher here, as in, we actually post about programming and post about our projects. ``Consider this'' threads can stay safely in /prog/, the scum of the programming world can still gather in the sekret underground hacker hangout, and we can treat this as merely a sister forum to /prog/.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-05 14:53

>>22
Unfortunately, a high signal to noise ratio will kill this board. We need balance to keep the community here.

so did we become 7chan yet?

Name: Anonymous 2014-05-29 20:28

Remember when 7chan's admin merged their /pr/ with technical support, with reason being that programmers should help people to setup their battlestations? I've never since experienced that level of trolling.

Isn't that what /lounge/ is for?

We've had plenty of shitposting since the time this was posted.
