Spam Prevention Techniques (ideas)

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-06 15:31

So I've been thinking of various spam prevention techniques, from stats & NN to NLP, but, how would you all feel about textual challenge questions?

Either questions I can make up in my spare time about programming (i.e., "Lisp is a ____-level language."), or textual captchas? So you could still post through links or whatever, and nothing would ever leave my server, but it would make it a lot harder to automate posting.

This is mainly so that I could unblock Tor without getting flooded, and I'd not have to block by IP at all since automation becomes impossible.

I am in favor of textcaptcha, esp. with questions geared toward this site. If you want to cheat, you can use this for now:
http://textcaptcha.com/

Still if its not warranted, we can do the ephemeral key thing, with maybe a user and password if we do not want to record IP addresses. The user, password, and key pair will only be used for allowing posts, and they will be destroyed every month (week?). The user can chose to recreate it. This way you can remove post on the fly per user. And when they have calmed down, they can recreate the user. The key point is that the user creation needs to be human validated, maybe with textcaptcha. That way they do not automate user creating to spam.

The weakness of just the textcaptcha is that they can post it elsewhere so that someone else solves for them (e.g. file hosting sites).

Lisp is a functional-level language.
You have been banned from
/prog/
!
I can see myself making such stupid mistakes for not taking the time to read the goddamn question.

There shouldn't be any problem using textual captchas, and making our own question bank would mean either creating millions of questions or letting some dedicated spammer try to exhaust the bank and solve all of them, but whatever, we'd have to implement one of them ans see which one works.

NN

What is NN?

To reiterate, we can just throw NN's at every problem and write a paper on it. Let's get published!

For the question bank I can easily turn one question into about 4 - 6 questions automatically, and delivering one form at random, therefore making it harder to build a reliable bank. Though, yes, that is the main problem, it would take a lot of work to build a big bank.

You wouldn't even be banned, maybe after 5 errors or so the time between attempts goes up or something.

I can easily implement text captcha myself that isn't annoying and isn't a bunch of questions like the one in the link. The whole user and password thing puts me off because it's too close to an account, and I'd rather not do that or force anyone to do that. Though maybe after the IP has solved a captcha, I will whitelist that IP for a short time, so if someone keeps posting from the same IP, they'll not see any captchas, and if their node changes they'll have to enter it again, and the "whitelist" for the last node wears off after they don't use it anymore. That seems like it would work.

How the fuck do neural nets and neuro-linguistic programming prevent spam?

Neuro-linguistic programming? What the fuck?

Neural networks have nothing to do with neuro-linguistic programming. The latter is some pseudoscience brainwashing technique.

NNs are matrix-vector stack multiplications with a "multi-layer perceptron" model loosely based on the way the brain itself works on a neuroscience level. They're used for data classification and prediction. Feeding a shitload of spam into a supervised NN and training it will allow it to "figure out" what spam looks like, in a sort of statistical way.

Fuck off hippie. Guess you meant Natural language processing then.

I doubt your little ``science'' mind can understand much beyond le dawkins face

Fuck off you little white queer. I can't wait for the pigs to throw your tight CP-possessing ass in jail where your alpha cellmates can expand it way beyond what drugs did to your mind.

It can be a random textcaptcha like:
Tell me the Nth vowel on following sentence:
Eat SICP and Dine.
Tell me the one that does not match:
SICP,Ruby,Papa,Haskell,APL
Tell me which is a RL programmer
Kikuri,Shinki,Reimu,Marisa,Sussman,Rika

>>8
Nah no bans on captcha failure. You could implement that after 10 times, they will have to wait a random time of 5-10 minutes, but I advocate against it. Maybe ban ECHELON servers if you can.

Also, you are not thinking of people whole are forced to use the same proxy as other shitposters.

No idea.

Marisa? Rika was pretty pale, does that count?

Also, does the Sussman still read the Talmud daily?

Barely. He's getting blacklisted automatically because he's too retarded to implement anything beyond a shitty bash script or whatever the fuck he's using.

I heard Reimu and Marisa get their power from Lisp.

What are you trying to accomplish? Make me mad by posting two or three cut posts?
