Game Development Language Choice

C++ or nothing!

Only the non relevant part of modern games are written in C++, like graphics and physics (the game engine itself). The relevant part (story, user interface, etc) is written in various scripting languages like Lua, Python, ActionScript (Scaleform), etc.

So it's more like:

Some slow scripting language or nothing!

C++ and C#.

And scripting languages like Lua are used for some simple logic and dialog shit.

Modern games are made of graphics, physics and AI. Other stuff is irrelevant. You can easliy take Oblivion, replace assets and get Fallout 3.

Excuse me, I write Touhou roguelikes in Lisp, so I know what I'm talking about. My published titles include such hits as Cataclysm: DDC, GRIMoIRE, and Ze-ngband.
