You just put the tag as the first item in the list.
<b><i><o><u>shit</u></o></i></b> (b (i (o (u shit))))
It should be obvious that two encodings of trees are equivalent, as they both have a one to one correspondence to the set of all trees of atoms.

>>18 Well why doesn't anyone use Sexp in place of XML then, smartass? I'll tell you why: XML has schemas and validation, which isn't possible with Sexps.

If the general consensus here is that XML is absolute shit, and XML is equivalent to Sexp, then Sexp is also absolute shit, right?

>>23 But nigger music is not equivalent to classical. Sexps, on the other hand, are equivalent to XML and arguably (which means there's got to be lots of people who take the side of Sexp) better-looking. No fucking <></></><> everywhere, just the smallest and most reasonable separators - the parentheses and the spaces. Sexps are like XML done right. So why does everyone insist on the <><><><> shit?
SGML style was adopted for HTML because TBL didn't want to deal with s-exp code for HTML documents. XML came after that as a way of writing human readable structured data.
