To Richard Stallman: Do you prefer 2D or 3D?

If we're talking only about attraction, not a relationship, it depends mainly on details.

I can be very attracted to a 1D woman who exists only as a sequence of words. When I read Emma Goldman's autobiography, at one point I fell in love with her.

GNU EMACS has little code in common with Gosling EMACS. They share a name, and have a lot in common, but they're separate programs, like Microsoft Word and OpenOffice. As for GCC, Stallman's original plan was to write a C front end for an existing Pastel (Pascal dialect) compiler, but the memory requirements ended up being too high, so he wrote his own compiler from scratch, reusing some code from the C front end he had written, but not using any code from the original Pastel compiler.

And he didn't try to rename Linux, but rather distinguish the kernel from the OS.
