And you can't simply abandon GC, because manual memory management would break security and require protected address space again.

Both sides of that comma are wrong in isolation and in combination.

You don't need exposed raw pointers for non-GC, eg. Rust (linear types without needing raw pointers), Swift (autorefcount, weakrefs without needing raw pointers.)
