Top programming languages (according to the people who care to read IEEE Spectrum):

1) LabVIEW
2) C
3) Verilog
4) Assembler (the one the chip vendor gave you!)
5) Perl for everything that can't be kludged in some horrible way using one of the above

Anyone who advocates for another language is not a REAL ENGINEER^TM and their opinion is not worthy of notice.

You forgot MATLAB. Also, VHDL is better than Verilog (actually, I prefer AHDL but that's proprietary).
