Open Source is a fucking bullshit hassle

Beginning of the day:

Hmm, I've been meaning to install this program again. I know just what CFLAGS to compile it with, but I'd better open it first. I go to decompress it and... what are the arguments to tar again? I open the browser to look them up. Whelp, might as well check and see what the /prog/rider is up to! Hmmm, retarded as ever. Anyway, better get back to opening that file. Okay, wikipedia is the first result, so I'll just go there. ``Tar is a substance obtained from a variety of organic materials through destructive distillation.'' What the fuck that's not right. Wrong tar. What is destructive distillation anyway? Oh cool, chemistry. I wonder what ``pyrolysis'' is... I'll open a new tab for it....

Then, five hours later, just before bedtime:

Oh shit, I forgot all about compiling that software. Oh well, it will have to wait until tomorrow I guess.

Not sure if this is the right place for this rant...

I've found a few flaws behind the defense of systemd:

It adds new features
It doesn't, almost nothing comes from systemd itself, except config files. the only "feature" one could recognize is consistency... But it, at the same time, these make linux less flexible.
How new are you to Linux? (How new is Poettering to Linux?)

Process/deamon control
Containers
See above. Cgroups is a kernel feature, LXC is a separate project, and neither of there features is systemd-specific nor dependent on it. There are tools to use this feature outside the systemd project.

It's modern, 21th century tech
See above. Also, some of these "new features" have been there for decades...

muh windows/solaris/mac feature
lel.

It's open source, you should be grateful
Bullshit. I could code malware to destroy your disks. Would you thank me if I made it open source?

muh boot times
http://gentooexperimental.org/~patrick/weblog/archives/2013-10.html#e2013-10-09T08_32_52.txt
That's how it got marketed in the first place, now it's a bunch of utilities taken from other projects and modified to depend on systemd. Also, a reduction of 10 seconds is useless in desktop and other systems, save a few.

muh stability
People used to post their uptime all the time, as something you could be proud. They still do, systemd changes nothing.

Poettering is a victim
[I don't have hard evidence for this] He's in the same level as Linus Torvalds in their egocentric attitude, and both are as assholes as the other. Linus is almost irreplaceable to Linux, Poettering and systemd are a fad.

You can fix/fork it
There shouldn't be the need to fork what wasn't broken in the first place. I also don't have the time/resources/followers as him, and I'm not being paid by Red Hat.

He's doing it out of altruism
See above.

In short: systemd is worthless, and you bought the marketing newspeak.

muh statu quo
muh feminism
Bunch of petite bourgueoisie whiners crying about the statu quo in the IT world? Top fucking lel.
Compare the situation to, say, the rights of (IT) workers being trampled everywhere (yes, even in "first world" countries), all the time. Or innocent people being killed in syria with the complicity and the resources (from your taxes [the syrian opposition, including ISIS, received funding from the US government]) of your governments. Or the situation of poor people in the world, in general. You aren't doing shit for them, you are taking advantage of the very same statu quo you supposedly hate so much, for your own personal profit. Go cry elsewhere.

And if you want to call yourself "Social Justice Warrior", you could start, say, by reading some history:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covert_United_States_foreign_regime_change_actions
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_interventions_of_the_United_States
