Unicode discussion

Ok, so unicode topic might be rather boring. But I'm looking at some unicode character sets and I wonder why the hell are they standardized...

So lets look at some examples (below there are symol's name, hex value, and finally the symbol, if your browser can view it):

there are ton of emoticons, like:
name: FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE; value: 1f61c; symbol: 😜

other weird symbols:
name: MOBILE PHONE WITH RIGHTWARDS ARROW AT LEFT; value: 1f4f2; symbol: 📲
name: PILE OF POO; value: 1f4a9; symbol: 💩 (yes, seriously)

There's ton of weird stuff that I'm not putting here, but I guess you get the point.

interestingly when I was playing around with these, using Python 3 interpreter (with unicodedata module), my konsole (KDE terminal) totally broke when trying to edit the line using keyboard arrows (printing out kinda worked though).

What do you think? Is it stupid that there are these kind of things in standardized unicode specifications? In my opinion, it's very strange at least.

Btw, if you can't see the symbols, try installing package that is called something like gdouros-symbola-fonts (depending on your system).
