Emulators

I am not a real nerd. I am a fake nerd. I lack the ability to form bonds with other nerds as well as with normal humans. I can't participate in the shared experiences through which people connect.

Being fake, I am interested in other fake things, as if to reassure myself that it's not just my own fakeness that ruins everything forever. Emulation is the actualization of the idea of a fake thing, because computation is a simulation of meaning in the first place, and emulated computation is a simulation of a simulation. As such, I get a sick, narcissistic satisfaction out of how nostalgic it is to use an emulator, even one for an environment you were never actually acquainted with in real life.

What have you emulated lately, /prog/? And what kind of programs do you find yourself wanting to write, but that don't have a place in the real OS you use, or on your real machine architecture, and thus have to be emulated?
