The Chrome Web Store does not allow extensions which are able to download videos from Youtube. Therefore we had to remove this functionality in the professional version for the Chrome Web Store.

We hope for your understanding!

"To help keep you safe on the web, we have started analyzing every extension that is uploaded to the Web Store and take down those we recognize to be malicious. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to take down malicious items promoted on other websites. For instance, online hackers may create websites that automatically trigger the installation of malicious extensions. "

The Chrome Web Store does not allow you to install extensions without a google account. How nice!
"As of Chrome 33, no external installs are allowed from a path to a local .crx"
Sweeeeet, I always wanted other people to try to keep me safe!

Why would you need a extension to download youtube videos? Use youtube-dl.

Google is kicking toolbars and other "multipurpose extensions" out of the Chrome Web Store in an effort to keep its browser's interface uncluttered and to protect users from unpleasant surprises.

The change will be disruptive to many extension programmers, but Google is giving them until June 2014 for existing extensions. New ones must abide by the new rules immediately, said Chrome engineering director Erik Kay.

"Extensions in the Chrome Web Store must have a single purpose that is narrow and easy to understand," Kay said in a blog post on Thursday. "While this has always been the intent of the Chrome extension system, not all extensions have lived up to this ideal. These multi-purpose extensions can crowd your browser UI and slow down your web browsing -- sometimes significantly."

Though there have been lawsuits filed and websites brought down all this time because of infringement, Google issuing notice to YouTube-MP3[dot]org is now one of the major headlines around us. The site, YouTube-MP3[dot]org, used to rip MP3s from Youtube videos and provided the ripped MP3s for download via their website. This type of cease and desist notices happen all the time; so you may be wondering what is so special about this website particular website that we are writing about it. Well, we aren’t so sure ourselves; all we know is a blog post by TorrentFreak (which claims to have seen the letter from Google) brought this issue into the public domain (no pun intended) and has since spread like wildfire.

In any case, Google has banned the server of YouTube-MP3[dot]org from accessing Youtube, thus stopping any ‘further ripping’ by the website.

In May, Microsoft launched a new YouTube app for Windows Phone that Google said ran afoul of YouTube's terms of service. Google demanded that Microsoft withdraw the app because it allowed users to download videos from YouTube, blocked ads and bypassed playback restrictions set by publishers.

Because the toolbar slows down your browser, yep that's it.

Nope. Google banned toolbars, because most toolbars are published by competing search engines, like Yandex in Russia.

The information below applies to Windows users only.

If you see a message saying "Extensions Disabled," it's because one or more of your extensions have been turned off to make Chrome safer. The extensions didn't come from the Chrome Web Store or were installed without your permission.

For your protection, you can only use Chrome extensions that you get from the Chrome Web Store.

If you need to use a disabled extension, you can do one of the following:

- Contact the extension’s developer and ask them to add their product to the Chrome Web Store. This will allow you, and other users, to manually re-enable the extension.
- Use a pre-release version of Chrome
- Sign in to Chrome on a non-Windows computer (Mac, Linux, Chromebook)
