Bit surprised at negativity about my lisp comments -- I am infatuated with the elegance of Scheme out of all proportion to its relevance

If Lisp is "built to be extended" then why are there so few examples of people successfully extended? Why isn't there a Lisp with dependent types, a Lisp for database queries, a Lisp made for a Ph. D. thesis, etc? People make lots of shitty little languages but less than a handful of them were made from Lisp. Julia, Elm, Dart, Nemerle, Go, Scala, Rust, Idris, Swift - none of them are built on Lisp. Even Clojure is implemented entirely in Java.

The only examples of languages being made by extending Lisp worth mentioning are Racket and Shen. Turns out, the supposed extensibility that Lispers brag about all the time is just snake oil.
