Nobody's said anything about how GG has adopted Scientology's "Bullbait" training routine yet (finding people's "buttons" & slamming them). So many GG tactics - especially within their own ranks - are very similar to Scientology brainwashing techniques. It's super fascinating. Telling people to cut ties with "SJWs" they know, or at the least stop reading their writing. Constantly reaffirming to one another that they're in the right. Deflecting questions about the dark underbelly of the movement. "It's about ethics" = "it's about self-improvement" The mass emails. The framing of innocents as bullies. The organised dirt-scraping. The rallying around celebrities and desperate, coordinated attempts to recruit celebrities to the cause. All of this has emerged completely independently. It's interesting to see a cult mentality form so quickly in such a contained environment. Both groups are completely obsessed with "ethics," and both have similarly bizarre interpretations of that word. Worst of all: both GamerGate and Scientology prey on the weak, the sad, the disillusioned, telling them they have a purpose and using them. GG and Scientology both have their own internal language made up of slang and acronyms. "LW1/2"; "shills"; "SJWs". Watching the internal chatter on octochan has provided a fascinating glimpse at a cult in its formative stages. It's a wild world we live in. A “shill” to GG is the same as a “Suppressive Person” to Scientologists. The only thing GG lacks is an L. Ron Hubbard figure. Instead, they've got half a dozen mini-Hubbards. The more you tell people they're in a cult, the more violently they push back. They have to come to an epiphany on their own.
