Is software really becoming too complex?
are their answers to this able to solve these problems?

What >>2-chan said. Many programs by suckless et al are complex in their own right or sacrifice a lot for their simplicity. What they do solve somewhat well is the problem of unnecessary complexity, which is a way bigger problem than complexity in general.
