if someone takes issue with something you said or did, resist the urge to be defensive. Just stop doing what it was they complained about and apologize. Even if you feel you were misinterpreted or unfairly accused, chances are good there was something you could've communicated better

How do we deal with this kind of crazy?

To all those "get these politics/drama out of my sight, I don't want to hear it" people out there I'd just like to point out that issues won't just go away if you ignore them. You might not care about this now, but what will you do when you get kicked out of an open source project, your GitHub repository is deleted, or you lose your job because someone launches a hate campaign against you because of what you said on a public forum about something completely unrelated to any of these activities?

These people (who are often referred to as Social Justice Warriors) will go to great lengths to ruin the lives of people who don't agree with their ideologies. People who work on open source projects, and especially the people who lead or manage such projects, need to know how to properly deal with dangers like these if the want their projects to survive. The NCoC gives good advice for that.
