The guy rants about the industry and how it is garbage. So he goes and grows stuff on his acreage (wow that's a solution to the problem) and hunts game, digs trenches and ditches. Sounds similar to the guy who quit the industry to grow coffee beans, remember that story?

Sounds like he took himself too seriously for an industry that does give a shit about him. I'm glad he had the good sense to realize this before wasting away his life on yet another web-api.

"People who can code in the world of technology companies are a dime a dozen and get no respect. People who can code in biology, medicine, government, sociology, physics, history, and mathematics are respected and can do amazing things to advance those disciplines." This dude is right. The industry today is a giant circle-jerk. Honestly, I don't see why you'd _want_ to major CS. Most schools are either sucked into the 'job hype' or are stuck in the 90s. Focus on a domain and learn CS and programming on the side.
