Tomorrow, Christmas of 2015, our Greatest Leader, Larry Wall, will finally release Perl 6. Are you ready /prog/?

Still waiting, Lemote.

What's the point?

If people used UNIX properly, you wouldn't need Perl.

Perl is a hack on top of a hack on top of a hack, so many layers down that you can't tell what the original hack was.

Everybody does know that "That was Perl quality!" is a euphemism for "That was shit!", right?

I looked through a little bit of the Perl 6 documentation and still can't figure out why to use it over Perl 5. If anyone here knows, let me know.

Tons of useful new features:
http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl6/index.cgi?the_long_perl_6_super_feature_list (there are some examples on the WP article)
Also, Perl 6 is being written in Perl 6, while Perl 5 can not even be properly parsed.

Perl is higher level assembly.
