World doesn't run on elegant abstractions. Its runs in C/C++ and this wouldn't change for awhile(and C/C++ standards guarantee it would be backward compatible).
You fear that adding tokenizer eval will make your Lisp irrelevant? Guess what: its already implemented in some third-party preprocessors, its just isn't part of the C standard.
