Should programmers design applications as well?

Everyone knows that designers today are overpaid useless dirtbags and completely worthless. They cannot do anything right and should all be killed for allowing and encouraging the internet to go to complete shit. Wouldn't it be more functional for programmers to design applications. There would be standards, increased useability, it may not be pretty but at least it would work.
