tiling window managers

one of the most convenient things I use at work is a terminal multiplexer. whether it's something simple like terminator or something more complex like screen, it's just a lot better than having to switch between fucking windows, tabs and virtual desktops. this got me thinking about applying the idea of a terminal multiplexer to the whole system and switching from floating windows to tiled windows, removing the bloat that comes with most of desktop environments in process.

is there a /prog/-approved TWM? is there a TWM that has shit I need? shit I need is:
- fairly small footprint because I need to run heavy background processes (builds, decompilation, fuzzing, bruteforce)
- built-in support for multiple monitors
- no problems running X-based GUI programs (I need to browse /prog/ at work)
- mouse support (I need to browse /prog/ at work)
- It Just Works (it's supposed to be convenient, I don't want to recompile it or rewrite configuration files that are in Lua/Haskell/Lisp/Intercal every time I resize a window)
- still maintained (if an update to kernel/X/drivers breaks it, I don't want to fix it myself because I'm a lazy fuck)
