General AI

What is the point of having a General AI instead of highly-tuned(optimized) specialized software fit for the task?
I.e. the "human-like AI" vs domain-specific software

so what? this will have some interesting philosophical implications (i.e. that things we associate with the concept of humanity are not unique to homo sapiens sapiens, or biological life in general) but it does not yet imply anything apocalyptic. if humans with human flaws didn't destroy the world yet, why would a piece of software with human flaws?
