Why is SICP so good?

Why is it considered an important work of computer science education? I read it out of curiosity last year, it's nothing special. It teacches some useful basics but quickly diverts into masturbatory academic drivel.

why do people have to be so cruel to each other? im starting to think most of humanity sucks, and we r are all doomed..... i trust animals more than humans..... i cant even make a serious SICP thread without negative bullshit.....
