How the fuck does anyone manage to program shit on Windows? It's just so terribly designed I'm amazed such a toy OS managed to get so popular.

"terribly designed"? Maybe some parts are not as simple as POSIX... but it's far better than the OOP bloatfest of incompatible GUI shit on *nix, or any of that .NET ENTERPRISE clusterfuck.
