It feels like the creators of Lisp-2 did not even bother to think why having separate namespaces for functions and non-functions would be a good idea. They did not even bother to read about lambda calculus.

I agree OP, Lisp-1 is clean and logical while Lisp-2's need to add funcalls hurts both readability and consistency. what's the advantage here?
