how websites would look like if scheme was used as a web scripting language

so basically javascript but with more (()()(())).

Not really

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-10 7:52

you can approximate this with clojurescript, but it sucks

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-10 15:58

It needs to be executed by the browser, not by a javascript the browser runs...

don't worry, it's a start
maybe cudder can use it as the scripting language for her browser

cudder is code word for curry nigger.

There's no point in making Scheme in Javascript when Javascript already is Scheme.

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-11 20:46

This. JavaScript is literally an adaptation of Scheme to have java-like syntax.

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-12 0:12

>>10
You're saying internally? 'Cause it looks nothing and works nothing like a lisp. Doesn't even have macros.

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-12 2:37

JavaScript's C-like syntax, including curly braces and the clunky for statement, makes it appear to be an ordinary procedural language. This is misleading because JavaScript has more in common with functional languages like Lisp or Scheme than with C or Java. It has arrays instead of lists and objects instead of property lists. Functions are first class. It has closures. You get lambdas without having to balance all those parens.

The problem with trolling is that when it's done often enough, people start to believe it.

No, you are thinking of lying.

Read a book nigger.

"In 1995, Netscape Communications recruited Brendan Eich with the goal of embedding the Scheme programming language into its Netscape Navigator.[8] Before he could get started, Netscape Communications collaborated with Sun Microsystems to include in Netscape Navigator Sun's more static programming language Java, in order to compete with Microsoft for user adoption of Web technologies and platforms.[9] Netscape Communications then decided that the scripting language they wanted to create would complement Java and should have a similar syntax, which excluded adopting other languages such as Perl, Python, TCL, or Scheme. To defend the idea of JavaScript against competing proposals, the company needed a prototype. Eich wrote one in 10 days, in May 1995."

if they used Scheme instead of making JS, everyone here would be talking about how bad, slow, and buggy Scheme is

Name: Anonymous 2018-03-12 21:40

Like Europe would look if they replaced the niggers with pakis. Web scripting languages are anti-white.

How else should it be? Compiling it everytime?

not to side with the cockroach, but the using a document system as a platform for programs(and consequently using a document reader as an operating system)is the problem here.

If you don't like it, then don't use it! HTML technologies are for the encoding and presentation of electronic pages over the Internet. The fact that these technologies can be used as an application platform doesn't change this. It is not a problem that these tools are used this way.

Its a problem that a document format is misused and abused into a basis for actual programs. Those program end up being inefficient, ugly, and poor, and the demands of the companies distributing their products this way dont fix what is most comparable to inter-network hyperlinked PDF as a basis for programs, but do make everything much more complicated, and lead to the state of affairs where one /has/ to use their slow, inesecure, headache inducingly stupid software for their daily life.

Scripting ability greatly improves the UI.
If you want to look at pictures of cats, it's nice to have thumbnails and the ability for the image to expand when you click on it.
Me and a few billion persons find it more comfortable that way and only one anus in /prog/ thinks it would be better to open the image in a new tab. In fact he'd rather have a text gallery in gopher and ftp links to download the images.
Documents with pictures? Many pictures? Heresy.

Latex lets you have pictures in pdfs.

And computer screens let you do a little more than paper.

I think a program is much bigger than just the user interface. I personally don't care that web technologies are used as an application platform. It's totally obvious to me that the world needed an application platform like this:
* a way of presenting applications in a declarative manner
* cross platform
* easy to distribute and reference the disparately located resources

Java web technology was a possible platform for computing like this but it didn't pan out in history.

As for you, are you being forced to use web applications in your daily work? If so you can suck it up, you're getting paid for a job. If not, then I'd tell you to install Noscript and block all these applications from running.

have you haxed it to implement new functionality?

No, someone else haxed it for me.

Web is on the way out and has been for a long while now grandpa. More people use mobile apps than use the web nowadays.

I'd rather click on the image and have it open in my image viewer you obtuse man.

And thank god for that. iOS/Android programs may suck for a lot of reasons, but most of whats bad is shared by Document-format-as-interactive-program abortions already, at least the phone things are meant to be what they are.
