SSH honeypot

What's a good way to set up an SSH honeypot? You learn about commonly-used passwords and hacking attempts with them, right?

Program your own in OCaml.

Program your own in erlang. We would not want to inconvenience the bots, would we?

Get a cheap old computer then fill it up with fake credit card numbers and leave the ssh open
You could even throttle it to dial-up and make it disconnect after so much (or little) traffic so they'd have to keep coming back

an SSH honeypot is not real SSH
it looks like SSH but it's just smoke and mirrors

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-19 3:39

and besides, you'd be running a honeypot in some VPS somewhere, not on your main servers or computer

It follows the ssh protocol, so it is real ssh.

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-19 17:27

who would use libssh over openssh anyway lol

Openssh does not have a library.

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-19 18:09

>>12
so libssh is for people who want to roll their own ssh instead of using something tried and true like openssh?

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-19 18:10

>>13
No, there are many reasons on why someone would need to use ssh as a library other than making a generic ssh client/server. Consider git for example.

git sucks ass, we need to rethink version control in a way that isn't so esoteric

people just accept that it's kinda backwards in some ways and we just accept that tech-related software has a learning curve, but there's gotta be a better way, we can revamp the experience of version control to make it easier and more streamlined

Git is good, it’s linux neckbeards who suck ass when they have to explain simple git operations and start with instructions to recompile the kernel.

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-19 21:00

Stop saying that things "suck ass", it's vulgar.

You know, I could understand your complaint if this was the worst thing someone posts here. But other posters post much more vulgar stuff than "suck ass" which is just an express that means something is bad.

I tell you what. If other posters make an effort to be more polite, I will too. But it takes two to tango.

>Git is ok [Mercurial is better], it’s linux fledglings who fail much when they have to explain simple git operations and start with instructions to recompile the kernel.
