``Bloat''

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-25 16:55

I have a cheap-ass laptop with 8GB of RAM and a dual-core i5. Even this is enough to run anything I throw at it (I don't play video games). It's good enough for any IDE, browser, or even ``bloated'' apps like Slack.

If you complain about bloat, is it because you have a total piece of shit computer? Even my cheap one has no problem running these things that a lot of freetard autists tend to complain about. But is it because they're broke neckbeards who can't afford a fairly modern computer?

Obviously modern software is going to seem slow on like a core 2 duo and 2GB of RAM, or some shit like that. But just get something newer and you're good to go. Problem solved. End of story.

Good for you. Now imagine two of bloated programs at same time. Threee. Four.
How much you precious laptop can handle?

If you have 8GB of ram and each program takes 3-4GB, three of them will put you into swap.

running a web browser and an IDE easily gets me into 6-7GB, if I run any relatively complex Java program I easily go above 9. good thing that my workstation has 32GB for huge builds

Good enough is not good enough.
It has to work snappy and fast, especially now that zoomers are accustomed to 120hz on their iPhone/iPad and 144hz on their gaming computer.

I guess you don't understand caching
your system uses more RAM when it has more RAM
dummy

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-26 14:33

Why would my system do that? Sounds ineficnent.

it's what operating systems do nowadays
you can speed things up by putting more stuff in RAM
if you have unused RAM, your OS will make more efficient use of it
if you need it for other things, you can use it that way
but there's no point in having 32GB of RAM and an 8-core processor if you're gonna get autistic about using a couple extra gigabytes of RAM and some CPU usage when the whole point of computing resources is to be used
