Snow Crash is a novel of ideas (besides also being a novel of cool explosions, hacking and virtual reality sword dueling) and its ideas are not really about programming but about how our cultures are built up on ancient foundations which continue to live on despite the fact that we often don't recognize them. stuff about programming languages and machine code is an analogy, not something that reveals deep truths about programming other than the obvious: that high-level abstractions are built on low-level foundations

BIOS is obsolete, it's all about UEFI now.
