many parts of C++ are hated not because their're are based on a bad idea but because their're are badly executed, have plenty of gotchas and require bullshit syntax. Java streams are also very similar to monads (but, funnily enough, not that similar to C++ streams) but people actually like them because their're are readable, easy to understand and make the language less of a pain in the ass to use.
