AI interpolation

Name: Anonymous 2019-09-18 22:26

Just one question: why modern graphic editors wont start transitioning to AI-based interpolation? I'm sure NVIDIA would happily fund such endeavor, because without hardware acceleration AI is very slow.

It is understandable with Photoshop: no competition means no need to improve the shit. Maybe now when they kicked Stallman out, the GIMP's license will be changed into something similar to BSD, so commercial companies could use it as a base for innovations?

Most people who use Adobe products run Macs which are incompatible with NVIDIA so they can't

I'm noy sure if you're a troll or so unbelievably idiotic. Just in case it's the latter:

1. If GIMP goes away from the GPL, and companies use it "as a base for innovations" (yeah, like it'd happen), they wouldn't have to release the sources, so you wouldn't get it unless you pay, and they would never build on each other, just offer different sets of one-gen "innovations".

2. It's not Stallman who prevented the GIMP from going non-GPL.

3. That's not gonna happen.

That would threaten Adobe Photoshop's monopoly and force Adobe to actually improve their shit, leading to innovations and price reduction. Also, many innovations can them be introduced into the free version, after companies spent millions into R&D and devised the right way to work with the say ANNs. Edited on 19/09/2019 11:23.

They would release the competitive advantage brought with all that R&D money for free because _____________.

I hope you're very young.

On the contrary, only naive boomers and GenX think "open source" magically trumps business interest.
Companies only release things as open-source where such things aren't profitable to them.

These can be easily reverse engineered and information on them leaking some other way.

No, for these algorithms, they cannot. Not easily. Won't happen.
