Now to the point. I remember Minsky's article on AI, where he explained that human brain on higher level (on lower levels it has independent set-in-DNA agencies, keeping you breathing or regulating heart rate) structurally has preemptive scheduling, where several agencies compete for brain attention, but only one can be fully active all the time. When agencies enter into conflict, we get what is called schizophrenia, and when one agency gets all the attention, we get the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or more commonly "fanaticism".
But compared to computer programs, higher level human brain agencies are created dynamically, without any preconception. I.e. they can process any arbitrary structures. Therefore the concept of memes, where some single idea is getting forced into brains of millions to the point of OCD. Same way you can program your own brain, when preparing to some important event, like the second coming of Christ, suicide or an act of mass murder.
I personally keep repeating "убить русских детей". I do it all the day long. The voice of that agency should be the strongest in my head. That should be the main part of my consciousness. I should never forget my mission of revenge.
