June 16-17, 2020 -- Trump living up to his North Korean nickname

Trump is fast declining in mental acuity and speaking ability.

Before Donald Trump began his on-and-off guy pal relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the North Korean propaganda apparatus referred to Trump as a "dotard." Leave it to the North Koreans to resurrect an arcane English term, which is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as "an old person, especially one who has become physically weak or whose mental faculties have declined." That just about sums up Trump, whose speech, writing, and movements suggest that he is experiencing sharp mental and physical decline at the age of 74.

Trump's difficulty in holding a glass of water and in negotiating a ramp after delivering the commencement address at last week's graduation ceremony at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point has been followed by Trump re-tweeting his own tweets in a manner that suggests he is talking to himself. Trump also had trouble with the names of Generals Douglas MacArthur and Ulysses S Grant, pronouncing them "McGarther" and "Ulysseus." Trump's mannerisms during the speech were described by reporters traveling with him as "lethargic."

Trump responded to speculation on his feebleness with a tweet late on June 13: "The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is 'fall' for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!"

Even Trump's infamous insults are not making any sense. Threatening to take down Seattle's Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) with "about ten different things," Trump, in remarks at the White House, called Washington Governor Jay Inslee a "stiff." Referring to Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, Trump said she "doesn't know she's alive." Trump also tweeted that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is "weak and shot." Trump, more times than not, resorts to projection in assigning his own faults onto others.

Trump's more recent incoherent babbling than usual is costing him in the opinion polls, with even the Republican-leaning Scott Rasmussen giving Biden an astounding 12-point lead over Trump, who is floundering in the mid-to-high 30s in most major polls. Last week, the Trump campaign sent a cease-and-desist letter to CNN after the network released a poll showing Biden with a 14-point lead over Trump. CNN swiftly rejected the cease-and-desist letter as frivolous.

Trump insists that he is in "perfect health" for his age. Most legitimate physicians, incluidng neurologists, differ and say that Trump, at the very least, requires a brain scan.

In his final two years as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev suffered from a sharp decrease in mental functioning and had trouble speaking. Brezhnev died in 1982 at the age of 75. During his latter years, Mao Zedong was often fatigued and confused. Plagued with Parkinson's disease, Mao died in 1976 at the age of 82. Professors of speech and hearing science Visar Berisha and Julie Liss wrote of Ronald Reagan in his final years in office, "President Reagan showed a significant reduction in the number of unique words over time and a significant increase in conversational fillers and non-specific nouns. Reagan's declining vocabulary still made him look like the greatest orator of his time compared to Trump.

Trump now displays signs of the disease that afflicted King George III of England, nicknamed "Mad King George." The king suffered from an ailment called logorrhea, which is an uncontrollable urge to speak even when the words uttered are totally incomprehensible. And, therein, we have: "Mad King Donald."
