That sort of news should have been reported when it occurred, not some 10 months later and two months before a presidential election.

Trump, who is clearly in bad health and suffering from morbid obesity and an inability to speak coherently, ensured that his White House spin doctors covered up the seriousness of last November's medical episode by claiming Trump merely had a "quick exam and labs” as part of his annual physical prior to what was foreseen as a "very busy 2020."

Schmidt reports in his book that Trump's visit to the Bethesda hospital was anything but routine and that Pence was alerted to take temporary reins of the presidency because Trump was undergoing a procedure that required anesthesia.

Trump has become the quintessential ailing authoritarian, whose medical condition worsens by the day. Africa, the land of Trump's "shithole countries," has a great deal of experience in dealing with old and feeble tyrants. Such leaders have been isolated from the daily government decision-making process and left largely to their own private pursuits or sent abroad for medical treatment.
