I don't want to embarrass myself I mean I just want to say that it is equal to the square of the left hand side.

83% of Developers Suffer from Burnout

Burnout has reportedly reached a critical point in the software developer circle since the onset of the Covid-19 health crisis. A recent study by Haystack Analytics, a company specializing in productivity of engineers, found that 83% of software developers suffer from burnout. The main reasons given by the latter to explain this exhaustion are high workload (47%), process inefficiency (31%) and lack of clarity of objectives and targets (29%).

Occasionally working long hours on enjoyable and challenging projects is great

Being forced to work long hours on awful projects sucks

Even normal or short hours on awful projects can lead to burnout.

Also not being stimulated enough can, like if you’re assigned to a project greatly under your skills can achieve.

Or working on something where you cannot see the meaning (ie something that you don’t think contributes to the society/community/company).

We often hear about burnout from working too much and maybe it’s the primary reason but not the only one.

I've tried to explain this to managers at my job. For reasons I won't get into, the project is highly siloed and individual developers maintain miniscule portions of the overall system. A select few maintain the borders between the silos but no one person is allowed access to the entire codebase or even a significant portion of it.

So we bring in developers without explaining this upfront and they inevitably leave after a year. There's barely 40 hours of work a week but people still get burned out because the work is mindless and thankless. I have the luxury of being just the right person to not burn out with this type of work but I've seen it enough times now to know the symptoms. But no one will listen to me. They just keep complaining about developers not wanting to work. It's not a matter of work ethic, it's the fact they aren't attracting the right types of workers.

I do not understand the white man's fascination with strange and unnecessary power sources.

Computation should be performed by running water through a series of logic gates positioned on a sloping hill. Gaia should power your computations, ensuring they are Just and Natural.
