What are you watching? I'm catching up on Gundams I missed before Origin.

Finished three seasons of Pretty Cure recently: Futari Wa, Max Heart and HeartCatch, in that order.

Futari Wa had nice character designs and the friendship between Nagisa and Honoka was well done. The battles have surprisingly raw action for a magical girl anime, and even though they don't make you super excited, they are enjoyable. The setup of the second half felt a little clumsy, but I suppose such a setup is not easy to do if you killed/sealed fucking everyone in the first half and urgently need antagonists. The insert song kicked ass, it's a shame they didn't use it during the final showdown.
However, there was some really unnecessary crap. The fairies? (especially Porun) were the most annoying things in the world, the pacing was a little off sometimes and the Queen's CGI was an eyesore.

Max Heart was Futari Wa with all flaws amplified and all strengths not expanded upon. Characterization stopped almost completely for Honoka. Most characterization went to Nagisa instead and what didn't was used up for Hikari, who was an incredibly boring protagonist. Even though the relationship between Hikari and Hikaru had great potential, a lot of it went to waste because of the horrible pacing. In fact, I think Max Heart had the worst pacing I have ever seen in anime so far. The plot was a clusterfuck as well: Sure we could get off our asses and hunt Heartiels in order to resurrect the Queen before Dark King destroys the world, but honestly, who cares about that shit? The Heartiels go search for us instead, so it's time for field trips to the cake factory and amusement parks! What the fuck.

HeartCatch was great. The only gripes I have with it are the rather shallow main characters (especially Erika and Sasorina felt lame and too cliched), but I just watched a series that had more characterization than actual plot, so it might just be the stark difference making it look worse than it actually is. Well, that and the scenes where the fairies shit heart seeds into the heart pot. That was unnecessary.
The finale was pretty awesome and the show handled plot twists in a decent way. Even though “I am your father, Moonlight” is overused and cliched as fuck, it was handled in a way that didn't make it completely obvious but wasn't M. Night Shamalama shit either. The scene where Dark PreCure staggers towards the professor was stellar and tear-jerking. The OST did its job well, too.
