The Frankfurt school deviated heavily from orthodox Marxism, and for that reason, critical theory isn't prevalent in modern Marxism.

I'm a subscriber to some parts of critical theory myself, and I don't view it as something bad. Not only that, but I don't view the "academic feminist school of thought" to be bad either.

A lot of the theory around modern conceptions of gender and race I owe to writings in critical theory. I can only be grateful for it.
