Nothing wrong with primitive technology if it works. Advanced technology is often more efficient, but it might not be worth the trouble if the infrastructure it requires isn't available. For example, it's far easier to cook with a microwave than over an open flame, but if you live in some remote, undeveloped region that's off the electrical grid and it's hard to even get gas for a generator, but there's plenty of wood around, it might make more sense to cook your food in a fire pit rather than a microwave. With globalization leading to the expansion of technological infrastructure, there are fewer and fewer places where this is true, but you can still find them here and there. Even in China, which is a rather developed country, at least in the urban areas, you still see industries using steam power because it works good enough for them.
